Name: Wim de Groot
Location: Bierum, Netherlands.
Been a fan since: Since 1978, I was 15 years old then and blown away by Sting's voice on 'Outlandos d'amour'.
Favourite Sting song: There are so many... But my most favourite is 'Dead Man's Rope' I think. Wonderful lyrics and it's virtuous.
Favourite Police song: Bring on the Night, how they recorded it on 'Regatta de Blanc' is just great, especially at the end with Sting's bass and Andy's guitar.
Favourite Sting album: 'Ten Summoner's Tales'.
Favourite Police album: 'Zenyatta Mondatta'.
Most memorable concert: April 25 from last year at the Sage, Gateshead in Newcastle. A beautiful and impressive show. Also special because of meeting friends again from sting.com. We joined a bus tour organized by Shirley from this site and it made it all complete because I was lucky to meet Sting at the Sunday Market in Newcastle and had a chat with him. An unforgetable weekend. There are a lot of other good memories but can't name them all here :).
Other favourite bands: Mark Knopfler, John Mayer, De Dijk (a dutch band).
In your own words: Sting's music is going like a kind of red line through my life. There are a lot of situations I can relate a Sting song to, like my youth, the birth of my 3 children, the death of my father, my 2 marriages and just to daily life. Last year I got married for the 2nd time, when we entered church 'Fields of Gold' was played on organ and 'When we Dance' was our wedding song (the version from Live in Berlin). My daughter made a photo collage on that song... very special.
