The audience will be also informed about the good results of the fund raising.

The unique concert will be held at the Amareen Camp within the historical site in order to respect the fragility of the area and prevent further damage. Actually, the government of Jordan has granted the permission for the memorial ceremony and concert at the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Petra on an exceptional basis, in acknowledgement of the Maestro's iconic status in the music world and of his special relationship with the Jordanian Royal Family.

"A concert in Petra was a dream once shared by the late King Hussein of Jordan and Luciano," said Nicoletta Mantovani. "I am so grateful to Her Royal Highness Princess Haya, for making it possible to turn this dream into a reality."

"Luciano Pavarotti was a true talent, a great man whose voice touched so many people around the world and inspired many more," explained HRH Princess Haya. "his talent was only surpassed by his humanity and commitment to the less fortunate. As a UN Messenger of Peace, Pavarotti touched the hearts of so many children around the world, he gave them hope for a better future. In doing so, he served as an inspiration to many."

The event is supported by the Government of Italy, which has announced a donation - through the Italian Cooperation for Development - in support of the joint UNHCR-WFP project in Afghanistan. Only corporate sponsor of "Salute Petra" will be YTL Corporation, the international company own by Francis Yeoh's, a dear friend of Maestro Pavarotti.

There distinctively bisecting the city is the River Tyne. There distinctively is the Gateshead Millennium Bridge, and there equally distinctively is Sir Norman Foster's recently constructed The Sage Gateshead concert and exhibition hall, the symbol of the ongoing renaissance of this capital of the northeast of England...
