Sting, sublime en Altos de Chavón...
Ofreció un espectacular concierto ante más de seis mil afortunados.
Altos de Chavón, La Romana.-La actuación de Sting fue sencillamente impresionante.
La gran estrella mundial del pop-rock volvió a cautivar a los dominicanos en un concierto a casa llena el pasado domingo en el anfiteatro de Altos de Chavón.
'Message In A Bottle', una canción que describe, en forma figurativa, la soledad que se siente al perder un gran amor, fue la primera en sonar, a la que le siguieron inmediatamente, como para no dar respiro ante tanta euforia provocada, 'Englishman in New York' y 'Every Litle Thing She Does Is Magic', una sucesión de temas fuertes para un público decididamente deleitado por el sonido y presencia de este gran ícono de la música.
Llega la pausa, Sting mira al público y sonríe sin aspaviento, lleva camisa blanca y pantalón negro y su inseparable bajo Fender, a pesar de sus casi 60 años, presume de una forma física envidiable.
''Muchas gracias, estoy muy feliz de estar aquí otra vez'', dijo en perfecto castellano.
Presenta a sus cómplices: el impecable Dominic Miller en la guitarra eléctrica; David Sancious, teclados; Vinnie Colajuta en la batería y Jo Lawry, su hermosa corista australiana. Entonces bajó el tono con la balada “When we dance”.
La apertura del concierto estuvo a cargo del cantautor Pavel Núñez, quien en más de una ocasión mostró lo agradecido que estaba de abrir un concierto de tal magnitud.
Junto a otros cuatro músicos repasó sus principales éxitos radiales, como “Cuna para mi abuela”, “Paso a paso”, “Te dí”, y “Bethania”, entre otros, recibiendo los aplausos y el respeto del público.
Fue un concierto que también brilló por el orden y la puntualidad, estuvo organizado por ACTPEO.
La noche sigue avanzando con los temas 'Shape Of My Heart', 'The Hounds Of Winter', 'If You Love Somebody, Set Them Free', 'Wrapped Around Your Finger' y 'Bring On The Night/When The World Is Running Down', clásicos imbatibles de su época con The Police y otros como solista, canciones que forman parte de la vida de miles de personas.
Hace mucho calor, Sting se seca el sudor y continúa. Con una voz espléndida, sin aparente mella por los años de giras le da inicio a 'Roxanne' y el concierto llega a su climax. Se despide en medio de la euforia provocada.
Regresa con 'Desert Rose', todos gritan, sigue con 'King Of Pain', otro clásico, 'Every Breath YouTake', se volvió a despedir.
Regresa guitarra en mano para interpretar 'Fragile', la última canción de la velada.
Todos se preguntan si se repetirá el dúo con Juan Luis Guerra, pero esas son cosas que suceden una vez y ya eso pasó aquel miércoles 26 de abril de 2006. En medio de ovaciones se despidió a las 9:40 p. m.
Sting fue el protagonista absoluto de la noche, el público que pagó hasta diez mil pesos para verlo en primera fila lo coreó, lo aplaudió y no quería dejarlo ir tras y una hora cuarenta minutos de canciones.
Sting flota en el espacio de las súper estrellas de la canción, insuperable la actuación de aquel profesor británico que un buen día cambió el pizarrón por el bajo, y sus alumnos por fans en todo el mundo.

Sting offers unsurpassed performance at Altos de Chavon...
The second match of Sting with the Dominicans at Altos de Chavon was exceptional and achieved a sellout of the landmark amphitheater.
From 8 to 9:40 pm on Sunday Sting played his major hits, which included some that popularized the band The Police and others of his solo career. 'Englishman In New York', 'When We Dance', 'Every Breath You Take' and 'Roxanne' were some of the songs he played the British singer.
The Grammy award-winning evening concluded with 'Fragile' with his guitar, he thanked in Spanish and blew kisses to all fans.
His three musicians and the showgirl Jo Lawry did a remarkable job with excellent performance.
Before Sting, Pavel Nunez encouraged the audience with a half-hour presentation that began at 7:30 pm. Among the songs he played the songwriter are 'Cradle To My Grandmother', 'Step by Step', People Come, and 'Bethany'.

CREATE A DISPLAY NAMESting’s second amazing concert at the Altos de Chavon amphitheater in La Romana, Dominican Republic was packed to the rafters again. Despite the afternoon threat of rain and the incredible heat it turned out to be a blast. Many were songs we hadn’t heard live in quite a while which will make old time fans quite happy. He started out to a lively Message in a Bottle followed by an Englishman in New York which many in the crowd were singing along as “Englishman in Chavon”.
Set Them Free, Hounds of Winter, Driven to Tears, Seven Days and Bring on the Night/World rounded out the ‘rarities’. Set Them Free in particular was played to a slower beat making a quite interesting version. A couple of Police songs and the standard Every Breath You Take/Fragile ending rounded it out.
Sting obviously had a great time and enjoyed the energy from the crowd despite the oppressive humidity and heat, which had him exclaim “I’m wet!” midway through the set (pictures say it all).
The only possible complaint could be that the set list was a very short 16 songs for the high price of this particular show (best seats @US$265 -this isn’t the US!). One parting request to Sting: Please, if/when you come again, try Fragile in Spanish! We know you know how. Dom can help! ;)

Will be my first time to see sting at the Dominican, (I’m a Dominican), I had the opportunity to see him at the Hiram Bithorn (Puerto Rico) about ten years ago. I do agree with JOSELUIS, mad about you and Shape of my heart are of my favorites too. See you all there!
