Sting once again captivated Bratislava with a concert full of hits...
The chemistry between the stage and the audience worked from the first song Voices Inside My Heart from the third album of the Police band Zenyatta Mondatta.
Less than two weeks have passed since Rod Stewart's top Bratislava concert, and the Slovak metropolis welcomed another top British artist. Sting performed as part of the Sting 3.0 Tour to Europe on Saturday evening (June 1) in the packed Tipos arena. Fans welcomed him as an 'old acquaintance', as it was his ninth performance in Slovakia. He returned after less than two years since the concert in Košice, where he played on September 28, 2022.
On the stage, musical instruments, a wide rear projection, two side screens, three light ramps and three musicians on stage, in addition to Sting, his long-time guitarist Dominic Miller and drummer Chris Maas.
The chemistry between the stage and the audience was already working from the first song Voices Inside My Heart from the Police's third album Zenyatta Mondatta, released in October 1980. Sting alternated songs from the Police era and his solo career in the playlist, gradually followed by Synchronicity II, Message in a Bottle from the Police's second album Reggatta de Blanc (October 1979) and the first big applause from the arena, If I Ever Lose My Faith in You, Every Little Thing She Goes Is Magic, Fields of Gold and again a big response from the arena, I Wrote My Name, Never Coming Home, Mad About You, When We Dance, Fortress Around Your Heart, Driven to Tears.
The entire arena sang along to the hit Englishman in New York with Sting, followed by Can't Stand Losing You, Shape of My Heart, Walking on the Moon, So Lonely from the Police debut album Outlandos d'Amour (November 1978), Desert Rose, King of Pain and finally the scorcher Every Breath You Take.
With a huge chant, the packed arena asked for two encores in the form of the hits Roxanne and Fragile. On the first evening of June, the memorials, the older, middle and younger generations, gathered in the arena, but everyone spared neither their hands nor their vocal cords. Bratislava does not experience such a great atmosphere every day, and even Sting himself was moved during the final bow and thanks for a wonderful evening.
The French-Italian singer Giordana Angi also contributed to this atmosphere as a support act, and the audience responded the most to her cover version of the song Mann! Feel Like A Woman from the repertoire of the Canadian singer Shania Twain.
Gordon Matthew Thomas Sumner, that is Sting's real name, founded the band Police in January 1977, with Andy Summers and Stewart Copeland as his bandmates. They broke up in 1986, released five studio albums, had a total of 18 songs in the charts, five of which reached number one.
On a solo career, Sting released fifteen studio albums, the latest The Bridge was released in November 2021, had 22 songs in the singles TOP 40 chart. He won 16 Grammy Awards both solo and with the group. Together with the group Police and solo, he sold more than 100 million records. He played his first concert in Bratislava on March 12, 2000. He started his current 3.0 tour on May 25 in Dresden, after Bratislava he will perform in Pilsen on June 4, and in Gdansk on June 6.
